Whispers of the Abyss

Story

In the vast expanse of the deep blue, there is a unique column of water, known by the ancients as the "Triton’s Pillar". Legends speak of this place, where time seems to stand still and the water currents tell tales of forgotten eras. You, whether as a minuscule submersible called the Nereid, a radiant squid named Lumin, or just a mysterious rectangle entity known as the Glyph, have lost your way and find yourself in unfamiliar waters. Drawn to the allure of the Triton’s Pillar, you embark on a quest to return to the comforting abyss below, but the journey is fraught with challenges and discoveries.

What's Next?

This project ended up being more ambitious than I had time for. While the Brackey's Game Jam was 7 days, I was only able to carve out about 24 hours on the weekend and late at night. I had plans for a robust power-up system and enemy types, as well as some interesting game mechanics like lighting changes and water currents.

Beyond that, I did not have enough time to properly play test the game and tweak the difficulty. I also re-used audio assets from my last project to quickly put something in.

Once the game jam is over, I will put some more time into refining, and I'd love to hear your feedback.

Todo:

In no particular order

  • Redo all sound effects.
  • Tweak the Gameplay difficulty curve and level generation
  • Randomized Powerups
  • Powerup Upgrades
  • More Powerups
  • More "fish"
  • Improve Art assets.
  •  ✨UNITY PARTICLE SYSTEM ✨
  • Change lighting at Depth.
  • Add currents, slowdowns and speedups.
  • Give the player character some kind of art style.
  • Display stats at end game screen.
  • Share stats to twitter/discord
  • 2 player mode?
  • And many more bug fixes ...
